- On October 31st two women suffered minor injuries in a fire that ignited their Donoma Street residence early this morning.
Investigators believe the fire started when a lighted candle ignited a wooden shelf. Lorraine Porawski told officers that about midnight she had left a candle burning while it was sitting on a wooden shelf in her rear bedroom. At about 3:00 A. M. she awoke after hearing a crackling sound and noticed the candle had ignited the shelf. She attempted to put the fire out and suffered burns to her hand and neck. She alerted her eighty year old mother (also named Lorraine) who managed to leave her second floor bedroom and get out of the home, suffering some smoke inhalation. Although the home was equipped with a working smoke detector, it did not activate until the elder Porawski had already made her way halfway down the stairs from her bedroom. Both residents were able to get out with minor injuries but several family pets were not as fortunate. Two dogs, three cats and two birds perished in the blaze.
Both victims were transported to Virtua Hospital, Mt. Holly for treatment.

During the Thanksgiving weekend officers will be assigned to saturation patrols as well as a DUI Sobriety Checkpoint within the township. Your vehicle will be impounded. You will be arrested." In the past several years Pemberton Township has conducted several DUI checkpoints that have resulted in numerous DUI arrests as well as arrests for drug possession, suspended licenses and outstanding warrants. The penalties for a DUI conviction are stiff. They include fines of between $250 - 500, loss of license for up to two years, possible imprisonment, a $3,000 motor vehicle surcharge, as well as a number of other fines and surcharges.
