  • Pedro Andrades, 25, of Browns Mills was charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief by Ptl. Bogdanowicz, in reference to a burglary of a Ft. Dix Rd. residence. Andrades had initially been stopped for a motor vehicle offense by Sgt. Pape of the Pemberton Boro PD. An investigation as to items observed in the vehicle led to the discovery of the burglary and theft that had just occurred.

  • Members of the Country Lakes Squad reported the theft of traffic cones from their parking lot. The cones are marked '187'. Ptl. Delagarza investigated.
  • Mr. Robert Legnaioli, Smithville Road, Bordentown, NJ, 33 years old, was operating a 1998 Monte Carlo Chevrolet eastbound on Pemberton-Brown Mills Road near the Pemberton Bypass. While coming down a slight incline, he lost control of the vehicle causing it to cross the opposite traffic lane, crossed a snow covered and grassy area and impacted into the front of a home in the 700 block of Pemberton-Browns Mills Road. The home suffered damage to the front door area but it appears there is no major structural damage. Responding officers contacted the Burlington County Road Department which responded with a sand and salt truck to treat the roadway for icy conditions. The collision is still under investigation by Pl. Scott Bogdanowicz.

  • A Kent St. resident reported a mailbox damaged by vandalism. Sgt. Luker investigated.
  • William Lowery, 22, of Browns Mills was charged with DUI by Sgt. Luker.
  • On March 17, 2003, Terrell Watson and Jerome Thomas entered a residence in the 100 Block of Medford Street. Once inside the home Watson allegedly brandished a small caliber handgun pointing it at the victim and stole money and a cellular phone. Once the property was gained, the pair fled the home to a 1998 Plymouth Neon, green in color, parked a few blocks away. The victim was able to retrieve the cell phone and followed the suspect vehicle as he was reporting this crime to Pemberton Township police dispatcher. Ptl. Thomas Stewart, hearing the call over the police radio, observed the suspect vehicle being followed by the victim in the area of Springfield Road, not far from the police station. Ptl. Stewart came up behind the vehicle in the area of Four Mile-New Lisbon Road and when he was directly behind the suspect vehicle, Watson jumped out of the moving vehicle. A short distance later the driver stopped the vehicle and Thomas and the female driver, Kim Sutton, were taken into custody. Ptl. Robert Shinn located and apprehended Watson without incident. The accused were chargee with the following offenses: Terrell Watson, male, 27, 100 Block Kinsley Road, Pemberton, NJ, was charged with Burglary, Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, Possession of a deadly weapon, and Certain Persons not to have weapons, Obstruction and Possession of a Controlled dangerous Substance. Watson also had numerous outstanding warrants for his arrest to include a Sheriffs warrant. Jerome Thomas, male, 28, Delap Court, Pemberton, New Jersey was charged with Burglary, Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, Possession of a Deadly Weapon, and Certain Persons not to have weapons. There was also one outstanding warrant for his arrest. Both were lodged in the Burlington County Jail in default of bail being set at $100,000.00 for each.

  • Gregorio Robles, 30, of Pennsauken, NJ was charged with DUI by Sgt. Flynn.

  • A number of residents in Country Lakes and Skipper's Mobil Home Park reported rocks being used to break windows. Patrols located 5 area juveniles who were taken into custody for the incidents. Ptl. Bogdanowicz investigated.
  • A Browns Mills resident reported a bicycle stolen from in front of the library on Broadway. Ptl. Bozoski investigated.

  • A North Lakeshore Dr. resident reported a vehicle broken into and items taken. Ptl. Ettinger investigated.
  • Members of the Police Department and Animal Control Unit are investigating an act of animal cruelty that occurred on March 1, 2003. A miniature Dachshund with obvious signs of cruelty was found in Bayberry Park off of West Lakeshore Drive in the Browns Mills section of the township. The dachshund is a red colored male believed to be about two or three years old. The owner is not known at this time.   • Patricia Stout, 31, of Hightstown, NJ was charged with DUI by Det. Mahler.
  • Ptl. D. Geibel was on patrol in the area of Lemmon Ave. when he observed a number of subjects involved in a fight. A further investigation resulted in the arrest of Michael Linares, 18, of Pemberton for obstruction and resisting arrest and a 15 year-old male from South Toms River for aggravated assault, simple assault, hindering, obstruction, possession of a weapon and he was also wanted out of Ocean County for a drive by shooting incident.
  • On April 13th at 3:55 PM on a dirt road, Lebanon State Forest, Pemberton Township an collision occurred between Bruce J. Fenimore Jr., 21 years old, Mt. Holly and Hazen P. Schulz Jr., 22 years old, Browns Mills. The vehicles involved were a Honda 300 all terrain vehicle, yellow and a Honda 300 all terrain vehicle, red. Police officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on a dirt road within the Lebanon State Forest. The road is commonly referred to as Maryann Forge Road and is located between Mt Misery Road and State Highway Route 70. Arriving officers determined that both drivers were operating their all terrain vehicles side by side at a high rate of speed when their vehicles collided, throwing both drivers. Mr. Schulz sustained serious head and internal injuries and was flow to Cooper Medical Center in Camden where he succumbed to his injuries. Mr. Fenimore was treated for minor injuries and released.   • At 7:30 A.M. Ptl. Perry Doyle and Ptl. Stan Grataski responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Four Mile Road. Investigation shows that Ms. Rachele Brown, 23, was heading east on Four Mile Road enroute to her employment at the New Lisbon Developmental Center when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a tree. Ms. Brown had to be extricated due to extensive vehicle damage by the Good Will Fire Company and the Browns Mills Fire Company. Ms. Brown was transported to Virtua Hospital, Mt Holly New Jersey where she is in stable condition. The collision remains under investigation.

  • The Pemberton Township Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit is currently investigating a motor vehicle accident that occurred on County Route 646 (Four Mile Road) at approximately 6:12 AM. The accident resulted in the death of the driver (chest trauma), along with moderate injuries (lower extremity trauma) to the passenger. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident involved one (1) vehicle (1994 Chevrolet Lumina), occupied by the driver and front passenger. The vehicle was traveling east on County Route 646, crossed over roadway (unknown reason), continued off the roadway for approximately one hundred sixty five feet (165') and struck several trees. The two (2) lane roadway, not divided, has a speed limit of 50 MPH. The weather was clear and roadway was dry. The driver and passenger were airlifted to the Cooper Medical Trauma Center (Camden, New Jersey) by South Star. The driver,identified as Darlene Kinslow (female, age 53) Browns Mills, New Jersey, was pronounced at 7:50 AM by Doctor Richard Burns. The passenger, identified as Donna McCall (female, age 50) New Egypt, New Jersey, was admitted to the Cooper Hospital in stable condition. The accident is being investigated by Ptl. Bruce Phillips and Ptl. Pete Delagarza (Traffic Safety Officers). The Brown Mills Emergency Squad, Country Lakes Fire Department, Presidential Lakes Fire and Rescue and Magnolia Road Fire Department assisted at the accident scene.   • The Firehouse Car Wash reported the coin machines broken into. Ptl. S. Wilson investigated.
  • Upon receiving a 911 call on 6/7/2003 at approximately 10:32 PM, Pemberton Township Police Officers were dispatched to the 7/11 Convenience Store located on Trenton Road (Browns Mills, New Jersey) in reference to a fight in progress. Ptl. Dave Geibel, Ptl. Lester Hann and Ptl. Tom Lucas arrived on location and observed a 1988 Cadillac Coupe DeVille as the only vehicle in the 7/11 parking lot. The Cadillac was occupied as follow:

    * Driver: Benjamin Watkins (male, age 32) 41 Hampton Lane Willingboro, New Jersey
    * Front Passenger: Melissa Smith (female, age 21) 13 Juliustown Road Browns Mills, New Jersey
    * Rear Passenger: Jade Flynn (female, age 20) 10F Browns Woods Apartments Browns Mills, New Jersey

    As the officers exited their patrol vehicles, the Cadillac attempted to leave the parking lot. Officers shouted commands and signaled for the driver to stop, but he refused to comply. The driver proceeded directly towards Ptl. Geibel, almost striking the officer. Ptl. Geibel was able to safely escape without injury.

    Ptl. Dave King and Ptl. Perry Doyle arrived on location in Patrol Vehicle 1808. Sgt. Ron Kreig also arrived on location in Patrol Vehicle 1814. The officers positioned their Patrol Vehicles on Trenton Road and signaled for the driver to stop. The driver still refused to comply, proceeded onto Trenton Road and intentionally struck both Patrol Vehicle 1808 and Patrol Vehicle 1814. The Patrol Vehicles were damaged as follow:

    * Patrol Vehicle 1808 (2001 Ford Crown Victoria) sustained moderate damage to the left quarter panel and rear bumper (no injuries to officers)
    * Patrol Vehicle 1814 (1999 Ford Expedition) sustained moderate damage to the left front fender and front bumper (minor injury to Sgt. Kreig)

    Driver continued north on Trenton Road, at which time Pemberton Township Police Officers pursued the vehicle. Driver proceeded onto the Fort Dix Military Base (Trenton Road), intentionally drove off the roadway and became struck in the mud. Total pursuit consisted of approximately two (2) miles. Driver refused to exit his vehicle and became combative with the officers. Driver was eventually taken into custody by Ptl. Gregory Hale, Sgt. Kreig and Ptl. Geibel (sustained minor injury). The two (2) females were also taken into custody pertaining to the initial fight call at the 7/11 Store. Department of Defense Police Department (Fort Dix) assisted with the apprehension of suspects, along with the removal of the vehicle.

    * Benjamin Watkins was charged with one (1) count of attempted homicide on a police officer, three (3) counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, eluding, possession of drug paraphernalia, two (2) counts of criminal mischief, reckless driving, operating a vehicle while suspended and failure to maintain proper lane. Bail was set at $150,000. Watkins was transported and lodged in the Burlington County Jail due to default of bail. Additional motor vehicle charges are pending from the Department of Defense Police Department. Watkins was also wanted for three (3) outstanding arrest warrants for Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, Theft and Violation of a Restraining Order (bail $25,000) issued by the Pemberton Township Municipal Court in March 2003.
    * Melissa Smith was charged with disorderly conduct and was released on her own recognizance.
    * Jade Flynn was charged with disorderly conduct and was released on her own recognizance.

    Sgt. Kreig sustained a minor injury to his shoulder during the collision in Patrol Vehicle 1814. Ptl. Geibel sustained a minor injury to his wrist during the arrest of the suspect. Both officers were treated at Virtual Hospital (Mount Holly, New Jersey) and released.

  • The Pemberton Township Police Department is currently investigating an armed robbery that occurred on Carp Lane (Browns Mills, New Jersey) on 6/8/2003 at approximately 2:45 AM.

    * Victim: forty-two (42) male, Browns Mills Residence

    Suspects driving silver compact (unknown make or model), loud muffler
    * Driver: black male, tall
    * Passenger: black male, short, wearing glasses

    Victim was walking on Carp Lane at which time two (2) males in a silver compact vehicle confronted him. Initially the driver asked the victim for a cigarette. Upon providing the cigarette, both the driver and passenger exited the vehicle. The driver displayed a handgun and demanded the victim's money. Suspects entered the vehicle and were last seen traveling north on Juliustown Road towards the Fort Dix Military Base.

    Victim was emotionally shaken, but he was not harmed. Patrols checked the area, but were unable to locate the suspects, their vehicle or any evidence. A county wide alert was broadcasted. Ptl. Chad Bozoski and Detective Brian Wechkus are conducting the investigation.

  • An employee of the JDC in New Lisbon reported the theft of items from a vehicle. Ptl. B. Groff-Hurley investigated.
  • Terry Leak, 24, of Browns Mills was charged with obstruction and possession of drug paraphernalia by Ptl. Bozoski.
  • On Monday, June 23rd around midnight Michael Berkley, White, Male, 44, residing in Browns Mills was taken into custody and charged with attempted theft and criminal mischief The Firehouse Car Wash located at 100 Firehouse Lane at the corner of Lakehurst Road in Browns Mills had been the victim of numerous instances of coin boxes being vandalized and money taken over the last few weeks. A surveillance was set up and the officers observed the suspect as he 'cased' the area and then attempted to break into one of the coin boxes. He was arrested at the scene without incident. The vehicle he was driving was seized pending forfeiture proceedings. He was initially charged with possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, criminal attempt at burglary and criminal attempt at theft. Additional charges are pending further investigation. He was placed into Burlington County Jail on default of $15,000.00 bail.

  • On June 30th Ptl. Ken Volk responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision. Investigation shows that Ms. Megan Wheeler, 21 yrs., Trenton Rd. Browns Mills, NJ, was operating a 1996 black Chrysler Sebring east on North Pemberton Road when a 1987 red Nissan Sentra driven by Mr. Wayne S. Choper, 71 yrs., Raritan Avenue, Highland Park, NJ, exited a private driveway from her right and attempted to make a left turn onto North Pemberton Road. Ms. Wheeler's vehicle impacted on the drivers side of the vehicle, just to the rear of the driver's door sending Mr. Choper's vehicle into a spin and impacting a guard rail. Mr. Choper suffered severe head injuries from the impact, and was taken by helicopter to Capitol Health Systems at Fuld (Trenton, NJ) where he is in serious condition. Ms. Wheeler suffered minor injuries and was taken to Virtua Hospital (Mt. Holly, NJ) by ambulance. The private driveway in question leads from Pemberton Airpark in which Mr. Choper is a principal. The collision is still under investigation and no summonses have been issued at this time.

  • Three Arrested in Home Invasion Investigation: Victims are: Faye Little, 51, residing in the East Winds Apts. Leon Hinkle, 41, residing on Cherokee Dr. in Browns Mills, NJ. Mark Kurtz, 22, residing in the East Winds Apts. Arrested were:Curtis Nuness, 18, residing on Boxwood Lane in Willingboro, NJ. Terrance Kidd, 20, residing on Hornblend Lane in Willingboro, NJ. Jakob Woodberry, 18, residing in Queens, NY. Police were called on Wednesday August 6th at 10:58 PM by one of the victims who reported that there had been a robbery East Winds Apts. When police arrived they learned that at least two subjects wearing coverings over their faces had pushed their way into the apartment and brandished handguns. They pointed them at the occupants of the apartment. One of the victims jumped out of a bedroom window and the other two were ordered to the floor at gun point. The suspects were in the apartment for a short time and then left without taking anything. There were no reported injuries other than a sore ankle incurred by the victim that went out the window. Police located the three suspects in Apt. 8 a short while later and they were taken into custody without incident. A 9mm pistol, a .38 revolver and a .410 shotgun were recovered along with clothing reportedly worn by the suspects during the robbery. All three were charged with robbery, burglary, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. They were all lodged into BCJ on default of bail set at $50,000,00 each.   • Motorized skateboards and scooters: There have been several inquires made concerning the use of electric/gas powered skateboards, scooters and similar types of vehicles. These devices are known by a number of names including Zappy's and GoBoards. In most cases they resemble a skateboard or scooter, have 2 or more tires, with or without a seat, and be operated by an electric or gas engine. While they are legal to operate on private property with permission of the owner they may not be operated on roads or sidewalks.   • An armed robbery occurred at the 7-11 Store located at 131 Trenton Road in Browns Mills. The victim is Gala Vipul, the store clerk, age 26. Two males dressed in black hooded sweat shirts and wearing black masks entered the store and brandished knives at the clerk. They took an undetermined amount of cash from the register and also assaulted the clerk by punching him. They then fled out the rear door of the store. The clerk was taken to Virtua Hospital for treatment and was released. Patrol Officer Michael Geibel initially responded to the scene and Detective David Patriarca is continuing the investigation.

  • Chief Stephen Emery and Mayor Robert McCullough have announced the appointment of three new police officers. Shaun Myers, Stephen Price and David Sawyer were sworn in by Mayor McCullough at a recent ceremony. The three new officers are currently undergoing training at the Burlington County Police Academy.
  • An Apache Trail resident reported the theft of money and jewelry from the residence. Ptl. R. Shinn investigated.
  • William Snyder, 19, of Mt. Holly was charged with possession of marijuana and underage consumption of alcohol by Ptl. Matthews.
  • A Liberty St. resident reported the theft of Halloween decorations. Ptl. Doyle investigated.
  • Police were called on October 18th at 2:11 pm to 43 Peony Street in Browns Mills by a neighbor. The victim, Barbara Craddock,49, had run over to the house to tell them she had been shot. Ptl. Brian Smith arrived on the scene shortly afterward and provided medical assistance. Craddock told him that her live in boyfriend, John Bunker, had shot her in each ankle and one wrist during an argument and was still at the house next door. Responding officers then found Mr. Bunker lying on the rear deck with an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The weapon, a .25 caliber handgun, was found next to Mr. Bunker. Mr. Bunker was still alive and was flown to Cooper Trauma in Camden where he later died from the head wound. Barbara Craddock was also taken to Cooper Trauma. She was admitted and the injuries were not considered to be life threatening.

  • The Wawa store located on Ft. Dix Rd. was robbed by a subject brandishing a knife. Ptl. M. Geibel and Det. Willitts are investigating.

  • A Tensaw Drive resident reported the theft of two inflatable lawn ornaments. One was recovered at a residence on Lakehurst Road. Ptl. Hale investigated.
  • Seven area juveniles were charged with possession of marijuana by Ptl. King after a resident complained of a loud group on Weymouth Road.
  • Two residents of Liberty Street reported vandalism to vehicles. Ptl. Bartholomew investigated.
  • On October 27, at 3:27 PM, police officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on a Pemberton-Browns Mills Road near Newcomb Drive. Investigation shows that a 1996 Nissan Sentra driven by Joy Valencia, 32 of Pemberton was heading east on Pemberton - Browns Mills Road when it crossed the center line and impacted head on with a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Mark Feuchtwanger, 46 of Browns Mills. The road was wet and it was raining at the time of the collision. Witnesses indicate that Ms. Valencia had just driven through an area of standing water and lost control of the vehicle causing her to cross the center line. Mr. Feuchtwanger was not injured; Ms. Valencia complained of head and neck injuries but was conscious at the scene. She was taken to Cooper Medical Center where it was later discovered that she had suffered severe internal injuries which later caused her death. The collision is under investigation of Ptl. Brian Smith, Traffic Safety Officer.
  • The food trailer at the Christian Caring Center was reported broken into and food items taken. Ptl. Lucas investigated.
  • Kenneth Sweet, 46, of Browns Mills was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and DUI by Ptls. Glendon and Bartholomew.
  • A Tecumseh Trail resident reported eggs thrown at the residence and vehicles. Ptl. white investigated.
  • The Pemberton Township Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit is currently investigating a motor vehicle accident that occurred on October 30th, 2003 at approximately 3:23 PM on Ridge Road. The accident resulted in the death of the driver due to chest trauma. The preliminary investigation revealed that the accident involved one vehicle, a 1995 Dodge Avenger, occupied by the driver identified as Kevin P. Haines, 17 years old, of Browns Mills, New Jersey. The vehicle was traveling north on Ridge Road, crossed over roadway for an unknown reason, continued off the roadway for approximately ninety feet and struck several trees. The driver was airlifted to the Capital Health Systems-Fuld in Trenton, New Jersey by South Star where he was pronounced deceased at 5:46 PM by Doctor Eboli. The accident is being investigated by Ptl. Bruce Phillips, Pemberton Township Traffic Safety Officer. The Brown Mills Emergency Squad, Browns Mills Fire Department and the Fort Dix Fire & Rescue Unit assisted at the accident scene.   • An Alfred Dr. resident reported a vehicle struck by paint balls. Ptl. Doyle investigated.
  • Nakischa Davis, 21, of Fort Dix was charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct by Ptl. Hood.
  • On November 3rd, 2003 at 11:25 AM Doctor Doris Carpenter, Pemberton Township High School Principal, received a telephone call from a former student. This female caller told Dr. Carpenter that she had received a telephone call from a current male student who told her that he and two other students had brought guns and a bomb to the school. The caller was located on a pay phone at a convenience store on Route 72 that borders Pemberton Twp. by Pemberton Twp. Detectives as a result of information provided by the school principal, who had maintained contact with the caller. They began to assess the information that she provided. The female was initially reluctant to provide any further details or names of the students. Through ongoing interviewing, it was determined that Spallone had lied and was untruthful and she later admitted that the call was a hoax. As the callers' statement was being assessed, the school officials initiated their school evacuation plan and had all students and faculty members exit the building. Dr. Carpenter spoke with all of the students and faculty members and advised them of the search for weapons. Students were screened with a hand held metal detectors prior to being boarded on their busses to return to their homes. Several K-9 units, members of the NJ State Police TEAMS Unit and members of the Township Rapid Deployment Force conducted a search of the building for weapons and dangerous devices. No weapons or devices were located. JMC Richard Andronici issued a warrant charging Spallone with creating a false public alarm, a 3rd degree crime, and obstruction of justice, a 4th degree crime, with bail being set at $2,500.00. Spallone was later released on $2,500.00 bail.
