POLICE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYMENT

The Pemberton Township Police Department is governed by the rules promulgated by the New Jersey Department of Personnel. We may only hire from a list that is supplied to us by the state. Individuals wishing to pursue a career with our police department must obtain a test application through the N.J. D.O.P. Additional information may be obtained at The New Jersey Department of Personnel

Current Employment Opportunities


  • Applications for the examination for the position of Police Officer are currently available.

    Applicants must be U.S. citizens and residents of Pemberton Township. In addition, applicants must be at least 18 years of age and cannot be over 35 years of age. Applicants must also possess a high school diploma or an approved High School Equivalent Certificate and possess a valid New Jersey Driver's License at the time of appointment.

    Applicants will be required to complete a written examination administered by the N.J. Department of Personnel. A fee of $25.00 must accompany the application. The closing date for receipt of applications by the N.J. Department of Personnel is March 31, 2008. The examination is tentatively scheduled for Spring 2008. The exam is given only every two years so failure to apply now will result in a delay until 2010.

The Police Department is currently looking for men and women to work as Class II Special Police Officers. The requirements are:

  • Preference is given to residents of Pemberton Township.
  • You must already possess certification from the Police Training Commission as a Special Police Officer Class II, or a regular police certification.
  • You must be able to read, write and speak the English language well.
  • You must have a High School diploma or its equivalent
  • You must be of good body and health
  • You must be of good moral character
  • You may not have been convicted of any offense involving dishonesty or which make you unfit for the duties of the office.
  • You must undergo the same psychological testing that is required of full time police officers.
  • Special Officer's main function is to provide courtroom security. Court sessions are held on Mondays from 830 AM-3 P.M., with several Monday night sessions. Other duties may be assigned which may include, community events and other duties as required. The salary will be $15.00 per hour
